Membership:
Virginia Code 51.5-47 establishes the appointment requirements for
local Disability Services Boards in the Commonwealth. The New River
Disability Services Board (NRVDSB) consists of at least fifteen
(15) members, including five (5) local officials (one from each
of the participating jurisdictions), two (2) representatives from
the business community, and eight (8) consumers. The board has no
less than five (5) members with physical, visual or hearing disabilities
or are members of a family of someone with such disabilities. Terms
are for three years, and a person can be re-appointed.
Terms of Appointment:
Representatives from the five jurisdictions are appointed by the
counties or city. Local officials may be elected or appointed according
to the decision of the local government. Business and consumer members
are appointed by the local governments. Terms are for three years,
and a person can be re-appointed.
