The Roanoke Valley offers the largest city in Southwest Virginia with employment, shopping and cultural resources that are often associated with large urban areas. The New River Valley is home to Virginia Tech and Radford University, which highlights the area as an educational center. In addition, with the recent joint effort between Virginia Tech and the City of Roanoke to re-open the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, increased growth in travel and interdependence is likely. A mass transit feasibility study will determine the strength of the commuting public to support this concept.
