Prices Fork Road Re-Alignment and Extension

Prices Fork Road is a two lane secondary roadway that connects the northern section of Blacksburg to the City of Radford. This narrow, winding section of roadway handles in excess of 7,000 daily travelers with speeds of 45 and 55 mph in some areas. This volume of daily travelers is higher than many primary roads throughout Virginia.

Prices Fork Road ends at State Route 114. On the other side of Route 114, Walton Road begins and continues from Route 114 to Route 11 just outside of Radford. Topography throughout the entire segment of Walton Road to Route 11 is very steep and mountainous. Motorists traveling between Blacksburg and Radford must turn west onto Route 114, then take Route 11 north to reach Radford.

Prices Fork Road has the traffic volume to support a 4-lane roadway from Blacksburg to Route 114. Improvements of this magnitude may require a re-alignment of portions of Prices Fork Road in order to avoid steep and rough terrain.

Radford has several highway improvement needs that could be resolved by extending Prices Fork Road across Route 114, then following the river basin to connect to Route 177 on the east side of Radford. This alignment gives access to Interstate 81 from Blacksburg without sending that traffic out through U.S.460. This alignment also could provide another access point across the New River for area residents and commuters, which could also provide access for the New River Industrial Park.
